Instructions for Authors

Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (Tissue Eng Regen Med, TERM), the official journal of the Korean Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Society, is a publication dedicated to providing research- based solutions to issues related to human diseases. This journal publishes articles that report substantial information and original findings on tissue engineering, medical biomaterials, cells therapy, stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. Manuscript for submission should be prepared according to the following instructions. For policies unstated in this instruction, the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical Publication ( can be applied.

Submission of Manuscripts

All manuscripts must be submitted online via the journal’s website ( by the corresponding author. TERM publishes feature articles, review articles, editorials and original research articles. Feature articles and editorials are invited only by editors. Journal Policies and Publication Ethics

Duplicated Publication The papers already published to other scientific journals or periodicals are not considered for publication as an original research article. Exceptions are allowed for conference abstracts and short proceedings. The submitted manuscripts to TERM should not be submitted to other scientific journal during the review process.

Authorship The authorship should be restricted to those who should meet any of the following conditions: 1) substantial contribution to the conception and design of the study, or acquisition, interpretation and analysis of data; 2) drafting the article or revising it critically for the important intellectual content; and 3) final approval of the version to be published. The corresponding author should declare the role each author according to the above criteria in the submitted manuscript.

Statement of Human and Animal Rights All human and animal investigations must be conducted according to the principles expressed in the Declaration of Helsinki. All studies involving research conducted in human and animal subjects must include a statement both in the Materials and Methods section and the Ethical statement section indicating approval by the institutional review board. Patients details may be included only if they are essential for scientific purposes and the authors obtain written informed consent for publication form the patient, pares, or guardian. Manuscripts without using human subjects and experimental animals should also declare that they have no ethical issues for human and animal right in the Ethical statement section.

Conflicts of Interest All authors must disclose any commercial affiliations or consultancies, stock or equity interests, or patent-licensing arrangements that could be considered to pose a conflicts of interest regarding the submitted manuscript. Potential conflicts of interest must be described in the Conflicts of interest section. If there are no potential financial conflicts of interest, please add the following statement: “The authors have no financial conflicts of interest.” All funding sources, institutional and corporate should be credited in the Acknowledgments section. Copyrights Copyrights of all published materials are owned by the Korean Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Society and all materials must not be published elsewhere without written permission. All authors must sign the “Copyright Transfer Agreement” before the article can be published and submit at the time of manuscript submission.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts are peer-reviewed by at least 2 anonymous reviewers selected confidentially by the editors. Selected reviewers are not supposed to be involved in the submitted works or in personal relationship with the authors. The acceptance criteria for all papers are based on the quality and originality of the research and its scientific significance. An initial decision will normally be made within 3 weeks after the agreement of review by the reviewers, and the review’s comments will then be sent to the corresponding authors. The author is then notified of Editor-in-chief’s decision to accept, reject, or request the revision of the manuscript. For manuscripts that need revision, the authors are recommended to submit the revised manuscript within 8 weeks for major revision and 1 week for minor revision of the decision date. The revision process can be extended on prior demand. Rejected papers will not be peer-reviewed again, unless it is substantially modified before resubmission.

Manuscript Preparation

The main document with the manuscript text and tables should be prepared with an MS Word in proper and clear English. The manuscript text should be written in double spaced, 12-point font, preferably Times New Roman on A4 sized paper with 2.5 cm margins on the top, bottom, right, and left. Authors should be limit the use of abbreviations to a minimum. Abbreviations are not to be used in titles. Abstracts may contain abbreviations for terms mentioned many times in the Abstract, but each abbreviation must be defined the first time it is used. Drug and chemical names should be stated in standard chemical or generic nomenclature. Units of measure should be presented according to the International System (SI) of Units. All units must be preceded by one space except percentage (%) and temperature (°C). Descriptions of genes or related structures in a manuscript should include the names and official symbols provided by the US National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) or the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee. Of generic and brand name of medicine, use generic names. If a brand name should be used, insert it in parentheses after the generic name.

Original article Manuscripts should be divided into the following sections; Title page, Abstract, Main text (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion), Acknowledgments, Conflicts of Interest, Ethical Statement, References, Tables, and Figure legends.

Title page This should contain the title and running title of the article and the full names and affiliations of all authors. If several authors and institutions are listed, it should be clearly indicated with which department and institution each author is affiliated as a superscript after each author’s last name. In a separate paragraph, an address for correspondence, including the name of corresponding author, academic degree, address (institutional affiliation, city, zip code and country), telephone numbers, and email address (if present), should be given. Place an asterisk (*) after the name of the corresponding. The title should be concise and descriptive, should comprise fewer than 100 characters. A running title of fewer than 60 characters should be included.

Abstract The abstract should be structured such as ‘BACKGROUND’, ‘METHODS’, ‘RESULTS’, ‘CONCLUSION’ and its length should be 200-250 words. Authors must provide 3-5 key words for indexing purposes. For the selection of key words, refer to Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) in Index Medicus, or at the internet site,

Main text Authors are urged to write as concisely as possible. The total length of a manuscript (including references and figure legends) should be fewer than 60,000 characters.

Acknowledgments, Conflicts of interest, Ethical Statement Please note the journal policies and publication ethics

Examples of Ethical statement: The study protocol was approved by the institutional review board of #### (IRB No. ##-##-###). Informed consent was confirmed (or waived) by the IRB. The animal studies were performed after receiving approval of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) in ### University (IACUC approval No. ##-##-###).

Citation Reference citations in the text should be identified by numbers in square brackets. Some examples:
1. Negotiation research spans many disciplines [3].
2. This result was later contradicted by Becker and Seligman [5].
3. This effect has been widely studied [1-3, 7].

Reference list References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Each reference should be cited as [1], [1,4], or [1-3]. The abbreviated journal title should be used according to the List of Journals Indexed for MEDLINE (http://www.ncbi.nlm. References with six or fewer authors should list all of them, while those with seven or more authors should list only the first six, followed by ‘et al.’.
Reference to unpublished data and personal communications should appear in the text only. Other types of references not described below should follow Citing medicine: The NLM style guide for authors, editors, and publishers (

Tables Tables should be typed double-spaced on separate pages within manuscript, and they should be titled and numbered in Arabic numerals in the order of their first citation in the text. Explanatory matter is placed in footnotes and not included in the title. Explain all abbreviations in the footnotes. Each column should have an appropriate heading, and if numerical measurements are given, the unit should be added to column headings. Footnotes should be indicated by superscripts (symbols).

Figures Figure legends should be typed double-spaced on a separate sheet following Figure 1 or Figure 2. Capital letters should be used for multiple parts of a single figure. Symbol, arrows and letters indicating parts of illustrations should be explained in the legend. Each figure should be referred in the text consecutively as Fig. 1 or Fig. 2A in parenthesis and should be numbered according to order of citation. There should be no more than 10 figure legends. Each figure should be submitted in a separate fi le, at a resolution of more than 300 dpi with a minimum width of 100 mm. Acceptable file formats are JPEG or TIFF. Line-arts (graphs and illustrations) should be submitted in native PPT (preferred) including editable figure elements, vector fi les (e.g., EPS) or TIFF fi les (at least 900 dpi with a minimum width of 100 mm). If you submit usable color figures then we will ensure, at no additional charge that these figures will appear in color on the Web (electronic version). For color reproduction in print, you will receive information regarding the costs after receipt of your accepted article. Please indicate your preference for color in print or on the Web only.

Supplementary data TERM accepts electronic supplementary material (e-components) to support and enhance your scientific research. Supporting data that are not essential for appreciating the conclusions made in a manuscript may be included as supplemental material. Examples of appropriate data for supplemental material include DNA sequences or Western blots that show the specificity of an antibody or efficient knockdown of a gene product. Supplementary fi les supplied will be published online alongside the electronic version of your article. In order to ensure that your submitted material is directly usable, please ensure that data is provided in one of our recommended text and image fi le formats. Authors should submit the material in electronic format together with the article and supply a concise and descriptive caption for each fi le. The number of supplemental display items is limited to five for an article.

Feature article, Review article These articles are generally prepared in the same format as original articles, but the details of the manuscript format may be flexible according to the contents.


Accepted manuscript will be converted to PDF format. The PDF fi le will be dispatched to the author for proofreading. Any change should be returned within 48 hours after receipt of the PDF fi les. No significant changes should be made to alter the interpretation of the results.

Publication Processing Charge

For unsolicited manuscripts, the author is asked to pay for a portion of the costs of article processing. The processing charge for one article is US $500 (500,000 Korean won). No article processing charge will be requested from authors outside of Korea in order to encourage active submission form throughout the world. This policy is subject to change in the future.
